There was a time, nearly 20 years ago, when alternative music actually meant something and stood for something more than some rural, backwoods, District 12, Scots-Irish culture. It was truly creative, well it appeared that way. One could say the same thing for hip-hop music, the emphasis was on originality and talent. In more recent times we have seen a rapid, widespread, cultural shift take place in music both "rock and roll" (whatever that means nowadays) and hip hop. The emphasis is more on following established forms of expression, a hidden religious tendency, and a melding of traditional Scot-Irish musical forms with alternative music.
