Governments, space agencies, groups, consortiums, etc have been talking about a manned mission to mars for about 70 years. It always seems to be 20 years away and that was 50 years ago!! In any case here is way we can prepare the way to get to mars, that will be cheaper, faster, and safer (to humans at least) than a full human mission. I recently received a postcard from the Phoenix Water department informing the household of rate increases due to expected shortages in rainfall near the Colorado river and the need to use or build pumps to obtain water from other sources. Given rising average global temperatures and the desertification of areas around the world, access to clean drinking water is going to be important issue. Municipal water departments around the world may consider implementing a water recycling program.
