Toilet to Tap

I recently received a postcard from the Phoenix Water department informing the household of rate increases due to expected shortages in rainfall near the Colorado river and the need to use or build pumps to obtain water from other sources.

Given rising average global temperatures and the desertification of areas around the world, access to clean drinking water is going to be important issue.

Municipal water departments around the world may consider implementing a water recycling program. The technology to recycle sewage water into drinking water has been around since the mid 1960s.

In fact a major city in the U.S., El Paso, is getting ready to implement water recycling on a city wide scale:

This renders El Paso "drought proof" and hence "death proof".

Another idea would be use Atmospheric Water Generators:

Some may think that the atmosphere in desert areas is too dry for the Atmospheric Water Generators to work effectively BUT, there is a source of water, namely vehicles.

The combustion process in most vehicles creates water vapor, this water vapor may be reclaimed by locating Atmospheric Water Generators alongside, highways, roads, and streets.

Now, if we can find a way to recycle human solid waste, turn it into pottery, screen for smartphones, food?

A professor of mechanical physics explains water reclamation:
