I found a video with a detailed explanation of the causes of EMP:
I have seen a few videos on youtube regarding EMP and there appears to be a bit of confusion as to what kinds of components will be affected and how they will be affected.
So I decided to do a little preliminary reading on EMP starting with the Wikipedia Article on EMPs:

National laboratories in the U.S. and around the world have performed studies on nuclear EMP and it's effect on electronics, the power grid, and other devices.
If one looks at the wikipedia citations one will see a collection of reference material that may be useful. One such document is the following:

This document is fairly technical, analyzing in some mathematical detail how the EMP is created and what effect this pulse may have on unshielded electronic devices. Though it is quite thorough in analyzing EMP effects on electronics, it is lacking in analyzing the effects of EMP on vehicles.
What is most important for the typical prepper are pages 45 to 55 in the pdf.
Here are the salient points:
EMPs generate power in a broad range of frequencies.
The thicker the metal enclosure the lower the EMP frequency it can attenuate.
Most modern electronic devices are highly susceptible to high voltage EM fields.
Electronic devices can suffer different types of damage, some immediately detectable other types of damage are more subtle.
Electronic devices can be damaged even when they are disconnected from any power source. (This is useful in regards to the operation of modern vehicles after an EMP attack.)
Problems arise when Sealed Faraday Cages need openings for air or wires.
Given that it may be possible that multiple EMP events may take place, separated in time and space. It is critical that people harden electronic devices that may be used after the initial EMP attack. Otherwise the EMP attack after the inital one will damage your backup electronics.
Another approach is to make a Faraday Cage large enough so that people can use electronic devices while inside the Faraday Cage.
Important electronics should be powered with batteries only and only while the batteries and the electronic device(s) are in a sealed Faraday Cage. Battery operated ham radios could be damaged even when used inside a sealed Faraday Cage since the antenna must be outside the Faraday Cage. It maybe possible to buy or build a device to insert between the Ham Radio and the Antenna to protect the Ham Radio from EMP.
IF you are caught in an EMP event while on the road, it is advisable to carry communication electronics in a thick Iron Pot with tight fitting lid in your vehicle along with a "Get Home" Bag. It may be a bit heavy but carry the communications equipment in a sealed thick Iron pot with you.
While looking at some other videos regarding building a Faraday Cage I ran across a comment that was from a supposed former NSA employee:
Take note how this commenter makes reference to " Tiny ElectroMagnetic Particles Emitting Secret Things" (TEMPEST).
Could this be a reference to how remote neural monitoring is conducted, by using these little particles? This is consistent with my findings that nearly every manufactured device has sensors built in that can monitor your thoughts remotely.

There is another way to connect a generator to one's house. Now, it is considered unsafe by electricians and does not conform to building standards or code. Yet, IF one takes the proper precautions then it is safe and will work.
It is much less complex and less expensive than installing a generator interlock switch.
This is known as backfeeding one's house with a generator.
This is quite popular in regions of the U.S. that experience Seasonal Hurricanes and other forms of extreme weather.
I have heard on youtube videos that in an urban grid down situation people will be able to hear a running generator from a long distance away and may pose a security threat. Well, there is a solution to that problem simply surround the generator with sound deadening materials like this:
Several people in the comment section of the video directly above raised the question whether surrounding the generator with sound deadening materials would cause the generator to over heat.
I suggested making a sound deadener that also functions as a heat sink. Making a sound deadening material made of metal with heat fins to dissipate heat.

One more thing about Ham Radio Situation. In a collapse situation, the networks that transmit data from smart phones, internet, cable TV will most likely be nonfunctional. This implies that people may have to use some of the Ham Radio communication methods that rely primarily on the physical characteristics of the earth, atmosphere, sun, etc.
There is another communication method that may still be functional in a collapse situation and that is communication satellites. Since many satellites are in orbit far above the earth, are geostationary, and have their own power supplies, they will be immune to most collapse situations on the surface of earth. Hence preppers can utilize these satellites to communicate with each other and around the world.

What to do in a Fuel Conversion Situation:
In order for your stealth vehicle to be as useful as possible in a collapse situation, it is advisable that it be able to run on almost any combustible liquid or gas. Without access to a steady supply of fuel, eventually mobility will be limited.
